Klaas-Jan Huntelaar Ajax
In 2006, Ajax paid €9 million to bring Huntelaar to the club. Having scored 40 goals in total in the 2005-06 season, he is expected to finish in fourth place in the European Golden Boot. Huntelaar was not chosen for the Dutch team at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, despite being in the preliminary squad. Coach Marco Van Basten explained that he felt Huntelaar would benefit from more experience and from playing at the UEFA Under 21 football championships in Portugal. At the tournament, the Dutch rose to the occasion, winning against Ukraine in the final, with Huntelaar becoming top-scorer of the tournament with four goals, scoring twice in the final.
Huntelaar was the first ever player to score a goal at Arsenal F.C.'s new Emirates Stadium in a testimonial match for Dennis Bergkamp on July 22nd, 2006 - a match Ajax ended up losing 2-1.
